Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) is Malaysia's government savings bank, established under the Ministry of Finance. For solar panel financing, BSN offers several unique advantages that private banks cannot match:
First, the minimum income requirement is just RM800/month — significantly lower than CIMB (RM2,500), Maybank (RM3,000), or Public Bank (RM3,000). This makes BSN the only major bank where lower-income households can qualify for a solar loan.
Second, the interest rate starts at SBR + 2.62% — which translates to approximately 4.47% p.a. at current SBR levels. This is competitive with or better than CIMB's green loan for well-qualified applicants.
Third, BSN has a nationwide branch network including rural areas and East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) — making it the best choice for homeowners in locations where CIMB, Maybank, or Public Bank branches are less accessible.
The main trade-off: BSN processing times can be slightly longer (7–14 working days vs 5–7 for private banks) due to government bank procedures.
