How solar O&M works and how to choose the scope
A solar system has no moving parts to speak of, but it is not maintenance-free. Dust, bird droppings, loose connectors, a failing inverter or a tripped string can all reduce output without anyone noticing, because the lights stay on and the TNB bill simply comes in higher than it should. Operations and maintenance (O&M) is the routine that catches these problems early.
The four parts of an O&M service
- Monitoring. Production is tracked and compared with what the system should be generating, so alerts point to a fault rather than a cloudy day.
- Preventive visits. Scheduled inspections of panels, mounting, cabling, switchboards and the inverter, usually with cleaning.
- Corrective work. Repair of inverters, cabling and mounting when something fails.
- Warranty handling. Someone who knows what is covered and files the claim with the manufacturer.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What exactly is inspected on each visit, and do you receive a written report afterwards?
- Is corrective work included, or quoted separately each time?
- Who is told when an alert fires, and how quickly is a technician expected to respond? Ask for this in writing.
- Does the plan cover systems installed by other companies, or only Trexon systems?
- How does the plan interact with your existing warranty? Trexon's warranty covers 30 years of panel performance, 12 years on the panel product, 10 years on the inverter and 5 years on workmanship.
Which route suits you
Homeowners with a correctly installed system often need only a yearly check and clean, which is what our optional maintenance subscriptions are built around. Commercial and industrial sites usually want a fuller preventive plan and reporting that supports their return calculations, so request a proposal and describe your system size, inverter brand and how critical the output is to your operation.
