Reduce Your Maximum Demand Charge
TNB's maximum demand (MD) charge is based on your highest 30-minute power draw in any billing cycle. Solar alone does not reduce MD reliably — one cloudy half-hour sets the month's figure — so the solar saving is on the energy charge. MD savings come from battery (BESS) peak shaving, sized from your own load profile, which we model from your bills.

Solar ATAP — Malaysia's Net Billing Scheme (2026)
Effective January 2026, Solar ATAP replaces NEM. Here's how commercial properties benefit.
Self-Consumption
Use solar power directly during operating hours. Every kWh generated replaces TNB electricity at the full energy rate you would otherwise pay (for example, 29.83 sen/kWh on Medium Voltage General). Solar alone is not counted as a maximum-demand saving.
Export Credits
Excess energy exported to TNB earns credits at the monthly Average SMP rate for non-domestic customers. Credits offset your bill but unused credit is forfeited at the end of each billing period.
10-Year Contract
Solar ATAP runs on a 10-year term. Exports are credited at the monthly Average SMP, and unused credit is forfeited at the end of each billing period. Payback is calculated per project from your bills. Multi-tenant premises are not eligible.
Critical: Why System Sizing Matters Under Solar ATAP
Unlike the old NEM scheme, unused Solar ATAP export credit is forfeited at the end of each billing period. If your factory runs 5 days a week, weekend generation is exported at a lower credit rate. Over-sizing your system wastes money. Under-sizing leaves savings on the table.
