Solar panel cost by TNB bill: what system, what price, what saving
Find your monthly TNB bill in the table below to see the system size we would size for it, the installed price, the estimated monthly saving and the payback. Every figure comes from the same pricing ladder and savings engine as our solar calculator.
The short answer
A RM150 bill fits a 5.58 kWp system from RM19,499. A RM300 bill fits 5.58 kWp from RM19,499, saving an estimated RM184 a month. A RM1,000 bill fits 11.78 kWp from RM27,999.
Solar system size, price and saving for each TNB bill
Prices are for the Solis inverter range, installed, before any SuRIA rebate. Savings assume Solar ATAP on the current residential tariff.

Estimates only, for typical single-phase and three-phase homes. Your actual bill, daytime usage, roof and supply decide the final system, so a quote confirms the exact size and price. Payback is installed price divided by the estimated saving.
How these figures are worked out
- Bill to usage: your monthly bill is converted into estimated kWh using the current TNB domestic tariff.
- Usage to size: we size a system from that usage, then round to the nearest size in our price list.
- Saving: the estimate follows Solar ATAP. Power you use as it is generated offsets your bill; surplus exported to the grid is credited at a lower rate, and unused export credit is forfeited each month. Fixed bill components also stay, so solar does not take a bill to zero.
- Supply: single-phase homes are limited to a 5 kWac inverter under Solar ATAP, so larger systems in the table need a three-phase supply.

Questions about solar cost and your bill
How much does solar cost for a RM300 TNB bill?
A RM300 monthly bill maps to a 5.58 kWp system with 9 panels, from RM19,499 installed on the Solis range. The estimated saving is about RM184 a month, a payback of roughly 8.8 years. A quote confirms the final size and price.
How is the system size worked out from my bill?
Your monthly bill is converted into estimated kWh using the current TNB domestic tariff, a system is sized from that usage, and the result is rounded to the nearest size in our price list. Entering your exact bill in the solar calculator gives the same result for your own figure.
Why does the saving not match my whole bill?
Under Solar ATAP, power you use while the panels generate offsets your bill, but surplus exported to the grid is credited at a lower rate and unused credit is forfeited every month. Some fixed charges also remain on the bill. A well-sized system cuts the bill substantially without taking it to zero.
Do I need a three-phase supply for the larger systems?
Yes, for most of them. Under Solar ATAP a single-phase home is capped at a 5 kWac inverter, which is the 7.44 kWp system in our price list at most. Larger systems need a three-phase supply, or a TNB Connection Confirmation Check costing RM1,000 if you exceed the cap.
Are these prices final?
No. They are installed starting prices for the Solis inverter range. Huawei and Sungrow options cost more, and the final quote depends on your roof, supply and equipment choice. See the pricing page for every size and brand.
