A dirty solar panel loses 10-25% of its efficiency. In Malaysia's dusty urban environments and rainy seasons, maintenance is key to protecting your investment.
Frequency: How Often?
In the Klang Valley, we recommend cleaning every 6 months. In cleaner rural areas or areas with heavy rainfall, once a year may suffice.
DIY vs Professional Cleaning
DIY (Do It Yourself)
- Cost: Free (water only)
- Risk: High. Slipping hazards, scratching panels with abrasive brushes, or thermal shock from using cold water on hot panels.
Professional Service
- Cost: RM 250 - RM 400 per visit (for standard bungalow)
- Includes: De-ionized water cleaning, visual inspection of cabling, and inverter check.
Warning: Never use detergents or pressure washers on solar panels. It damages the anti-reflective coating and voids the warranty. Use only soft brushes and plain water.
