5 Common Solar Myths in Malaysia Debunked

Misinformation is expensive. Let's clear up the myths surrounding photovoltaic systems in our country.

Myth 1: "Solar doesn't work when it rains or is cloudy."

Fact: Solar panels work on light, not heat. While output drops during heavy rain (to ~10-20%), they still generate power during cloudy moments. Malaysia receives 4-5 peak sun hours daily on average, which is sufficient for high returns.

Myth 2: "It makes my house too hot."

Fact: The opposite is true! Solar panels act as a second roof shade, absorbing the sun's heat before it hits your tiles. Many customers report their upstairs bedrooms are 2-3°C cooler after installation.

Myth 3: "I will have electricity during a blackout."

Fact: Standard grid-tied systems shut down during a blackout for safety (anti-islanding). Unless you have a hybrid inverter with a battery backup, you will also lose power.

Myth 4: "Maintenance is difficult."

Fact: Systems have no moving parts. Aside from occasional cleaning (handled by rain or yearly service), they run themselves.
