What solar system size does a hotel in Malaysia typically need?
Hotel solar sizing depends on room count, occupancy rate, and amenities. A 50-room boutique hotel typically requires a 50–80 kWp system and a 150-room mid-scale hotel 120–200 kWp; each is priced per project from your bills. Large resorts with 300+ rooms, pools, and full F&B operations often install 300–500 kWp systems. We assess your TNB bills across all meters to size a system that maximises savings under Malaysia's Solar ATAP programme.
How can hotels market solar as a guest-facing sustainability feature?
Solar installations are a powerful marketing asset for hotels. Display real-time solar generation data on lobby screens and in room welcome packs. Highlight your carbon offset in booking platforms — OTAs like Booking.com and Expedia have sustainability filters that eco-conscious travellers use. Apply for Green Key or EarthCheck certification, which requires documented renewable energy use.
Can solar energy be used for hotel pool heating in Malaysia?
Solar thermal collectors (separate from PV panels) are a common way to heat pools, but Trexon does not supply solar thermal systems — source them from a solar thermal specialist. What we do is size solar PV to offset the electricity used by electric pool heaters, heat pumps and pool pumps during the day, modelled from your TNB bill.
Do hotels need battery backup with solar systems?
Hotels strongly benefit from battery backup due to guest experience expectations. A grid outage without backup power is unacceptable in hospitality. Battery systems (sized to your critical loads) ensure critical loads — front desk, CCTV, fire systems, emergency lighting, and at least one lift — remain powered during TNB outages. For resorts in areas with frequent grid instability, we recommend a full-facility backup capable of maintaining all guest services for 2–4 hours. The battery also captures excess midday solar generation for use during the ToU peak (2pm–10pm, Monday–Friday); the added saving is modelled from your own load profile.
Are there bulk pricing advantages for hotel chains installing solar across multiple properties?
Multi-property rollouts are priced per project, and procuring across several sites at once can lower the per-site cost. Hotel groups can also arrange financing across properties with their own banks. Each owning company may claim GITA — 60% of qualifying capex against up to 70% of statutory income — if the capex is incurred, the system commissioned and the MGTC application submitted by 31 December 2026.
