The Economics
In Malaysia, we have stable grid power (unlike South Africa) and Solar ATAP.
Solar ATAP is not a free battery. Export credit (at the Energy Charge, RM 0.2703/kWh) is forfeited at the end of each billing period and cannot be drawn back later.
When DOES a Battery Make Sense?
- Frequent Blackouts: If you live in an area with unstable power (e.g., specific rural areas).
- Maximum Independence: You want to be 90-100% off-grid for ideological reasons.
- EV Charging at Night: You drive a lot and charge 2 EVs overnight, using more than your daytime solar output (unused export credit is forfeited).
