I rent my retail space. Can I still install solar panels?
Yes, but you'll need landlord approval. Some landlords agree because solar can add value to the property and may attract eco-conscious tenants. We recommend a 5-10 year lease minimum to ensure ROI. We can provide documentation showing how solar benefits the property owner. Alternatively, ask your landlord to install solar and offer you discounted electricity rates.
Will solar work if my store is in a shopping mall or complex?
Individual mall tenants typically can't install rooftop solar (roof belongs to mall management). However, if you're the mall owner or have standalone retail buildings, solar is worth considering. For mall tenants, consider asking mall management to install solar and distribute savings to tenants. Standalone shops, shophouses, and retail outlets with accessible roofs are ideal for solar. Note: under Solar ATAP, multi-tenant premises are not eligible, so a shared-meter complex needs a different arrangement.
How do I calculate the right solar system size for my store?
Use this formula: Check your TNB bill for monthly kWh consumption, then divide by 30 days and by about 3.5 (typical daily yield per kWp in Malaysia). For example, if you use 1,500 kWh/month: 1,500 ÷ 30 ÷ 3.5 ≈ 14 kWp system. However, our engineering review of your TNB bills gives more accurate sizing based on your roof space, shading, operating hours, and budget. A booking of 20% of the system price, capped at RM20,000, credited in full, locks in your slot and engineering review. Under Solar ATAP, business exports are credited at the monthly Average SMP and unused credit is forfeited monthly, so we size mainly for daytime self-consumption.
Can I promote my store as "solar-powered" to attract customers?
Yes. We can provide marketing materials such as window decals and social media graphics. Many consumers value eco-friendly businesses. You can display your real-time solar generation on in-store monitors, feature it in your marketing, and even apply for green business certifications like MGBC Green Building Index or MyHijau recognition, which enhance brand reputation.
What financing options are available for retail solar installations?
Trexon's own routes are outright ownership or hire purchase through a partner; bank green loans are also an option you can arrange with your bank. A company that owns its system may qualify for GITA — an allowance of 60% of qualifying capex against up to 70% of statutory income, provided the capex is incurred, the system commissioned and the MGTC application submitted by 31 December 2026. A PPA is different: it requires a third-party asset owner, and the offtaker cannot claim GITA.
