In Malaysia, there are two main ways to connect your solar system to the grid. Choosing the wrong one can cost you money.
Solar ATAP
The Gist: You can SELL excess power back to TNB.
Best For: Residential homes and SMEs.
Key Benefit: Creates a "virtual battery" of credits.
Constraint: Quota is limited (first come, first served).
SELCO (Self-Consumption)
The Gist: You use everything you generate. zero export.
Best For: Large factories with 24/7 operations that consume 100% of solar yield instantly.
Key Benefit: No quota limit. Faster approval.
Constraint: You must install a "Zero Export Device" to prevent backflow to the grid.
Which One Should You Choose?
If your bill is under RM 50,000/month, go for Solar ATAP. If you are a heavy industrial user, SELCO provides more flexibility in system sizing.
